Countdown to Christmas!
Team Grassroots is preparing for our Christmas shopping extravaganza, and this time we are bringing our friends!
On the Sunday only we will also be joined by Phil & Clare from THCC Candles, all the way from Dalraddy.
THCC will be selling beautifully scented candles which are both cruelty-free and vegan (for that matter so are the bread, pastries and Christmas trees!)
We ask that even while outdoors everyone wears a mask and keeps a safe distance from stall-holders and other customers. Only people from a maximum of two households should enter the shop at a time.
Hand sanitiser is available at the door and we have a one-way system marked out to keep everyone safe.
New website on its way
Grassroots’ elves are working on a new website as I type, but it’s not ready quite yet. In the meantime here are some prices.
Christmas Price Lists
Here are the prices of the Christmas trees and wreaths. If you have any questions please feel free to phone 01540 661270 or e-mail email@example.com.
These beautiful conifers have dark green foliage. The needles are softer and
less prone to dropping, and for that reason it is becoming a popular
choice for families.
4 ft / 1.2 – 1.5 m – £35
5 ft / 1.5 -1.8 m – £40
6 ft / 1.8 – 2.1 m – £50
7 ft / 2.1 – 2.4 m – £65
8 ft / 2.4 – 2.7 m – £80
9 ft / 2.7 – 3 m – £80
10ft + / 3m + – £ 95
This evergreen is the classic Christmas tree. Distinctly pine-scented, it has a bushy appearance and spiky, bright green foliage. It prefers cooler conditions and is an ideal outdoor tree.
3 ft / 0.9 – 1.2 m – £ 20
7 ft / 2.1 – 2.4 m – £ 40
8 ft plus / 2.4 – 2.7 m – £ 50
These beautiful arrangements are hand-made for you to remember your loved ones by placing on a grave or special place. Many people also use them to decorate their front door. The prices are as follow:
Dressed Holly – £25
Especially made for Grassroots in Inverness-shire, these glossy wreaths are spiky but beautiful. Happily they come with a string handle so you can place them with ease.
Dressed Spruce – £25
We dress the Spruce ourselves here at Grassroots, so if there is a special object you would like included we can do that for you. We use, as far as possible, eco-friendly options like dried pine cones, ivy, biodegradable ribbons. You can of course keep the decorations to use again next year!
Plain spruce – £15
Plain spruce rings are available if you would like to dress your own wreath with your family’s decorations, or perhaps the cones you gathered on a favourite walk in the woods.
Grassroots is open straight through from 10am to 5pm from Tuesday to Saturday, hurray!
Chris works the morning shift and Iona the afternoon, and we are ably assisted by Taylor, Brook and Ava when it gets busy.
We have big plans for the website, but the main thing at the moment is to keep our bricks and mortar shop going.
I’ll leave the text below for your information until all the Is are dotted and the Ts crossed on the new website.
Prepared Chrysanthemum bulbs are now available for Christmas flowering 🙂
Customers will be required to wear a mask while in the shop until progress is made in controlling Covid-19.
We now have locally-made washable masks in stock in a variety of designs, patterns and sizes.
NB You will not be permitted to enter the shop without a mask.
If you cannot wear a mask for medical reasons please chap on the window and we will come out to you. Iona has MS and is recovering from cancer so can’t take any chances with her immune system.
If you are deaf or hard of hearing, please let us know and we can swap to a clear mask so you can lip read.
In the meantime stay safe folks. We look forward to welcoming you to Grassroots of Kingussie soon.
Grassroots is growing!
Grassroots if growing at such a pace that our website can’t quite keep up. We aim to develop the site so that we have images, listings and prices for all our products and (fingers crossed!) an online shop.
But while we are getting point of sale and stock control systems in place as well as ordering, unpacking, pricing and displaying all this fantastic new stock, with only so many hands to do the work, we are concentrating on our High Street shop rather than the online presence.
Thank you for your patience; we hope you will bear with us and continue to visit us at number 26 High Street, Kingussie where we look forward to welcoming you warmly.
Grassroots has moved!
Only four doors down the street 🙂 We have flitted to new, larger premises at number 26 High Street, Kingussie. We are the other side of the lane to the Co-op.
This larger space will allow us to develop our new eco product lines which have proved so popular. If there is anything you would like us to stock, do drop us a line or leave a comment on our Facebook page.
We aim to extend our lines of eco toiletries, eco cleaning products, and wholefoods, all using as little plastic packaging as possible. You can bring in containers (as long as they are labelled with volume) and fill up on toilet cleaner, washing-up liquid, laundry liquid, fabric conditioner, all-purpose sanitiser and liquid handwash.
We are making a start with a bank of ten hoppers so you can fill your own containers (or buy a gorgeous Kilner jar). The all-organic goodies in the hoppers just now are muesli, jumbo porridge oats, quinoa, mixed beans, brown basmati rice, cous cous, chick peas, pumpkin seeds, red and green lentils.
Grassroots offers a wide range of food for wildlife with appropriate feeders. We have peanuts for birds and red squirrels, seed for birds (including the ducks at the pond)
Even the birds are going #PlasticFree; now you can buy loose seed or nuts and pay only for the weight you have scooped!
For keen bird-watchers we have nyger seed for the finches and siskins along with the special feeders you need for this fine seed. This is only part of our range. Please do come and have a look. Bird seed, sunflower seeds and peanuts can be bought by weight for a cheaper price, as part of our efforts to reduce plastic waste. We are now doing this for human food too!
We even stock squirrel feeders and special squirrel food now, as well as super-cosy squirrel houses!
Ugly Bug Ball
We don’t just care about the cute and furry animals! We also stock bug houses and butterfly pollen-feeders, and an observation house for solitary bees. Bees and other pollinators are under threat and we have to do all we can to support them.
Keep it clean! (your home and the planet!)
Grassroots now proudly offers eco-cleaning range Bio-D.
At the moment we stock washing-up liquid, laundry liquid and toilet cleaner, and it’s been so popular we are extending the range. If there is anything you would like us to stock please let us know! You can also re-fill your bottles so that’s another excellent step on the journey to #ZeroPlastic!
Grassroots now stocks the full range of Friendly Soaps soap, shampoo and conditioner bars. They have been flying off the shelves; our first delivery sold out in one day!
Friendly Travel Soap is just one of the range of #PlasticFree soaps and shampoo bars we sell. However, just because we have been diversifying into #PlasticFree goods doesn’t mean we have forgotten our core offering – plants and garden accessories! These are still very much on offer but are naturally seasonal and will be back with a vengeance in the spring! In the meantime we have a small range of lovely houseplants.
We are building our range of plastic-free products which have so far not been available on Kingussie High Street. We have made a start with FitPit deodorant, Friendly Soap soap and shampoo bars which are #PlasticFree and Weleda toothpaste which comes in steel tubes and Truth Paste which is supplied in re-usable or recyclable glass jars. We are adding to the eco-goodies every week!
Some great suggestions have been made on our Facebook page so please add your comment there, tagging @IonaMalcolm if there is something you would like to see stocked at Grassroots. If you don’t use Facebook please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
We now stock a range of gifts, including “I <3 Kingussie” and “I <3 gardening” aprons for adults and children We even have them for Newtonmore, my giddy aunt! Jolly red Christmas pinnies for adults and children have just arrived.
Any plant or gift can be wrapped in paper and decorated with ribbon – take your pick! We can make up special gift baskets with tissue paper, which is completely recyclable, or you can use it to light the fire.
Brown paper packages tied up with string…
Our gorgeous goodies are perfect to send to loved ones! We can even wrap them and post them for you! Call 01540 331270 or 07530 567881 or e-mail email@example.com to enquire.
The right tool for the job
Grassroots has a range of tools and gardening accessories; if you would like something in particular just ask. They are hiding in the store room at the moment to make space on the shop floor for other seasonal items. We have Decco catalogues for garden and home which include all kinds of useful things. Just ask to see them in the shop, or call us on 01540 661270 to talk about your requirements.
